How to Clean Your Happy Hacking Keyboard

For work, I use the Happy Hacking Keyboard HYBRID model daily and I really enjoy typing with this one. It gives me the satisfying typing feel and sound that HHKB fans are raving about. Thanks to its ergonomic design, my wrists don’t get sore compared to the time period when I was typing on my laptop. Also, HHKB is so compact and doesn’t take up on my desk. Definitely, a game changer in many ways!

Due to the heavy use of HHKB, it was time to clean my HHKB. Today, I would like to show you how I clean my HHKB. The great thing about it is that you can easily find the cleaning materials and tools at home already.  You don’t need anything special.

Here is the list of what you need.

  • Keycap puller tool
  • Large bowl
  • Dish soap
  • Alcohol
  • Cotton swab
  • Towel
  • Cotton cloth
  • Brush

Let’s get started!

Step 1: Take all the key caps  from the keyboard frame with a keycap puller tool.

Step 2: Soak the keycaps in the bowl filled with dish soap and warm water overnight. (Or soak them for at least 6 hours)

Step 3: Rinse the key caps well with water and place them on a towel to dry them.

Step 4: While drying the key caps, let’s clean the keyboard frame. Here, I am using a painting brush to clean any dust. Then, I am using a cotton swab and alcohol to clean stains. After that, I use a piece of cotton cloth and alcohol to wipe the keyboard frame.

Step 5: Now the keyboard frame is clean, let’s check to see if the key caps are dry! If there is any water left (especially in the back of the key caps), I suggest you wipe with cotton swab.

Step 6: This is the fun part! Put back the key caps to the keyboard frame one by one.

Step 7: Done! Super clean!

It wasn’t too bad, right? Let’s make sure we clean our electronic devices often because we use them heavily every single day. It’s definitely important to keep our work area clean, especially now!
